2020 ENR Best Projects Award: U of A HSIB

In 2017, Martin, White & Griffis participated in the design of The University of Arizona Health Sciences Innovation Building (HSIB). HSIB is a 217,000 square foot cutting edge laboratory and research facility that uses structural ingenuity to achieve remarkable learning and collaboration. While the 9‐story plus basement building fosters a wide variety of learning, research and gathering spaces for teams of 2 to 1000, delivering the project in a 37‐month fast‐track process required ingenuity to achieve remarkable learning and collaboration. Early decisions on an initial structural system, preplanning for construction logistics, and best value evaluations for the University were coupled with a host of structural systems and approaches that could flex even as construction progressed.

The project team received the  2020 ENR Southwest Best Projects Award which honors the best construction projects and the companies that designed and built them. HSIB was honored at the 2020 ENR Best Projects Awards ceremony on November 11, 2020 at the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel.
