Project Description
University of Arizona Student Success District
The new Student Success district integrates and revitalizes student services in four adjacent central campus buildings: Main Library, Weaver Science Engineering Library, Bear Down Gym, and a new 4-story Student Services Building that occurs on the Southside of Bear Down Gymnasium. The project consists of a major renovation to one of the oldest buildings on the University of Arizona campus, Bear Down Gymnasium. The renovations include strengthening some of the existing diaphragms and lateral resisting system with braced frames at new openings in the existing unreinforced masonry walls. A new main floor and mezzanine constructed of steel beams and a concrete-filled steel deck were added. Other areas were remodeled to provide access to the existing basement area and to modify the existing bow-string steel trusses. The new Student Success building is constructed of cast-in-place concrete with a partial basement and a two-story, two-bay clear span post-tensioned concrete transfer girders.
