Project Description

University of Arizona Health Sciences Education Building – Special Inspections

The University of Arizona Health Sciences Education Building (HSEB) is a 6-story concrete shear wall building in downtown Phoenix, AZ. Construction began in 2009 and completed in 2012. In addition to providing structural design, MWG performed the structural special inspections for the building from start to finish.

The building has a gross area of 264,000 square feet and took 88 million pounds of concrete and 3.5 million pounds of rebar to construct. Some notable features of the building are the large lecture rooms that can host 140 seats, and a Grand Canyon imitating breezeway inside the building. The building has up to 40 foot drilled piers, 20 in shear walls, and intricately shaped exterior concrete walls.
